Stop motion documentation of one hour’s work on Sunday, May 22, 2016
Color video
Garner Arts Festival
May 21-22, 2016
Garnerville, NY
Before and during the Garner Arts Festival, I asked attendees and other participants to donate broken, unusable products. I mended twenty items, although they are not now necessarily functional. I approached each object with kintsugi in mind. Kintsugi or kintsukuroi is a Japanese tradition of fixing broken pottery with gold lacquer. I transformed each broken object into a unique sculpture by highlighting its imperfections. By embracing damage and requesting an unused item, I aimed to recycle and elevate each object by emphasizing its scars.
